RUGBY: Wimborne 25 Trowbridge 15
4:50pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Sport
TROWBRIDGE’S battling performance proved in vain as relieved hosts Wimborne secured the four points.
Steve Ojomoh’s visitors competed for every loose ball, and, for long periods, looked as though they would be rewarded with a victory.
Both sides’ games were error-strewn and it was only after a yellow card for Trowbridge’s Sam Edwards that Wimborne took the lead with a Jim Brokenshire penalty.
A man down, Trowbridge struggled to defend their line and good pressure resulted in a try from Wimborne’s Charlie Samways and conversion from Brokenshire.
Trowbridge, now back to full strength, gradually got the momentum back and winger Ashley Chalk, who had drifted infield, went over near the posts, Lloyd Davis adding conversion.
Trowbridge raised their game in the second half, moving the ball out wide and attacking the home defence and were rewarded with a second try from Chalk, which was unconverted, to take the lead.
The lead changed hands twice more with penalties from both sides bring it to 15-13 in Trowbridge’s favour going into the last quarter.
Wimborne piled the pressure on, eventually breaking through with a try from captain Steve King and conversion from Brokenshire.
A further try in the dying moments from replacement Jack Wilson wrapped up the victory.
Corsham suffered their second defeat of the season as they went down 10-0 at Southern Counties South rivals Dorchester on Saturday.
PHIL Kilcoyne scores a hat-trick of tries as Trowbridge 3rd defeated Minety 2nd 19-10 in Dorset & Wiilts Three North, Sam Butcher adding two conversions.
