TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Keeper Homla earns Polenez a draw
10:56am Monday 7th October 2013 in Sport
THIRD Division rivals United FC and Polenez Westbury fought out a 1-1 draw at Clarendon Academy.
Polenez were indebted to their keeper David Homla for keeping them in the game with a string of fine saves but the stopper was unable to prevent United from taking the lead, with Artur Laga curling a stunning 35-yard free kick around the wall and in off the post to hand them a half-time advantage.
United had a few chances to add to their lead which went begging and they were caught out as Wayne Pearman found the net to hand Polenez a point from a competitive battle.
The Lamb Reserves 0 Trowbridge Rangers 7
Trowbridge Rangers made a welcome return to their former base at Whaddon Lane for their first meeting of the season with The Lamb Reserves, who probably wished they were somewhere else as Rangers were in total control on their way to a 7-0 win.
Goals from Jake Cooper and Sam Miller helped Rangers to a 2-0 interval lead and after the break, the floodgates opened as Rangers ran in another five unanswered goals.
Miller and Cooper took their tally to the game to two each as they added to their first half goals, but both were outscored by Dan Moore who bagged himself a hat-trick.
The Stiffs 0 Marshfield FC 4
Marshfield picked up maximum points from their visit to Trowbridge.
A 4-0 win for the villagers over The Stiffs earned them their third victory in five matches since their switch from the Wiltshire League at the end of last term.
The Stiffs held the visitors at bay until the 34th minute when Andy Jefferies broke the deadlock and Marshfield's lead was doubled in the 38th minute as Jeffries netted his second of the game.
Marshfield added their third in the 53rd minute through a first of the season for Jeremy Bond and another first timer from Sam Davis with 18 minutes remaining wrapped up their victory.
Zeals FC 2 Holt FC 2
Division Three leaders Holt dropped their first points of the season after they were held to a surprise 2-2 draw away at Zeals.
With all the goals coming in the first half, it was Zeals who led through James Weeks' well taken goal.
Fynn McCarthy-Driver cancelled out that effort and it was a second from McCarthy-Driver that tied the scoreline after Josa Gualda had regained the lead for Zeals.
