A WEEK after they chalked up their first win of the season in Division Two with a thrilling 6-5 victory over AFC Avellinos, GRFC were involved in another 11-goal thriller.

For a second week Tam Laidlaw’s side took maximum points thanks to a 6-5 triumph which saw Talbot, who had beaten them 5-1 a month ago, lose out in an epic encounter.

Harry Myles, Robbie Burton, a great finish from Connor Laidlaw and Scott Nash all scored to put GRFC 4-0 up before Talbot woke from their autumn slumbers and reduced the arrears with Aaron Clegg netting.

It was just a brief respite for Talbot as Mike Jenkins fired in a fifth for GRFC before half time.

A different Talbot side turned up for the second half and got themselves back in the game as they cut the gap to an odd goal, a second from Aaron Clegg and two from Andy Law made it 4-5.

But just as it was looking as if Talbot would draw level Sam Tinson broke from right back and lashed home his first ever goal for GRFC to hand the initiative back to the Chippenham-based side.

Talbot grabbed a fifth courtesy of Clegg to complete his hat-trick and although they huffed and puffed as they looked for an equaliser, GRFC held out to claim back-to-back 6-5 wins.

Southwick Wanderers 2 Fortune Inn 1

A 2-1 WIN for Southwick Wanderers at home to Fortune Inn saw Matt Rusling’s side move into second place in the standings with Miller Sports who were in Knockout cup action.

The match that ebbed and flowed was goalless until the 80th minute and then one controversial moment led to Southwick taking the lead.

With a Southwick player down injured, Fortune’s keeper kicked the ball out, from the restart Carl Davies launched the ball back to the keeper but his lob sailed into the net to give Southwick the lead much to the annoyance of their opponents.

From the restart it looked as if Fortune would be allowed to walk the ball into the Southwick net, but that was until he was robbed by a Southwick player, but the ball fell to the hosts manager Matt Rusling who sportingly put the ball into his own net to see parity rightly restored.

With the game heading for a draw, Southwick snatched victory when Jack Parker turned in a Jason Rose cross to seal a 2-1 win for the home side.
