CORSHAM have continued their strong off season by completing the signing of batting all-rounder Paul Robbins, from Keynsham.

Robbins, previously with Gloucestershire CCC in their youth and academy structure, is a talented middle order batter who bowls left arm seam and latterly left arm spin will bring more depth to the Station Road batting line-up that struggled during 2013.

Robbins whose 2013 season for Keynsham yielded 356 runs and two half-centuries as well as 24 wickets at an average of 22 is hoping the move will enhance his claims of a recall to the Wiltshire side for whom he already has scored a championship century.

Corsham’s 2014 skipper Pete Dennett said: “Signing Paul is great news for the club.

“He really fits the profile of player we are looking to get into Corsham – young, fit, ambitious and able to offer something in more than one discipline of the game.

“In this case he can do all three: bat; bowl; and field.

“We really hope that Paul will not only help us on the pitch but that we can help him achieve his ambitions of getting back into the Wiltshire Minor Counties team on a regular basis.’’

Corsham have already recruited former captain Michael Coles, who will again captain Wiltshire next summer, for their 2014 campaign.

And Dennett believes Corsham are in fine shape as they seek to make an impact at the top end of the Wadworth 6X West of England Premier League Premier One table next summer.

He said: “Although 2013 wasn’t a raging success on the pitch, the club maintained its Premier One status which is crucial and really took a step forward in its professionalism off the pitch.

“We are determined to make sure 2014 isn’t such a struggle on the pitch and that standards keep going up off the field.

“Bringing someone in like Paul, along with the Michael Coles signing, really builds depth into the club’s batting and bowling options and should only help us push on up the table in 2014.’’
