A REVISED Sports and GT championship, a few small tweaks to the rules and a packed programme of race meetings are on the calendar for the Castle Combe circuit in 2014.

With another ten-race season still some months ahead, the circuit's race day content is all but full, with the return of some old favourites, some new visitors and the opportunity for all types of modified saloon, sports car and sports racing car to have their own races.

The biggest change for 2014 is the splitting of the existing 'Sports and GT' championship.

Modified saloons, kit cars and road-based sports cars will take on the mantle of the nine round championship, whilst the out and out sports racing cars, such as Radicals, Jades and Mallocks will have their own six round series, with rolling starts.

The GT championship will be split into seven classes whilst the new 'Sports Racing' series has five, including a specific one for Sports 2000 cars, with the over two-litre class having no capacity limit.

The circuit's ever popular saloon car championship has had its ballast rule removed this year and allows any sub 3.4 litre, two-wheel drive, road car built after the year 2000 to take part.

As ever, the circuit's Formula Ford championship is the place to race an FF1600 car of almost any age, with both a Pre '90 and a Pre '82 class and a sub series for 'novice' drivers.

A traditional Castle Combe crowd pleaser, the Mini, is featured in three of 2014's race days, whilst Radicals make a welcome return on August 2.

As was the case in 2013, the season closing 'Autumn Classic' will be the highlight of the year for many, with a feast of fabulous cars, costumes and camaraderie.

After the success of the Formula Juniors in 2013, the even more diminutive F3 '500's' join them, in total contrast to 'Bernie's V8s and Monster Machines'.
