TROWBRIDGE fighter Dan Blackwell says he has nothing to lose when he steps into the ring with an Olympic medallist in London tomorrow night.

The 20-year-old middleweight, who is already the veteran of 31 fights, is set for a six-round clash with London 2012 bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo as part of the televised bumper Matchroom Christmas show at the ExCel Arena.

Blackwell, who out-pointed Dee Mitchell at the Trowbridge Civic Centre in October and has been back in the ring three times since, is relishing the challenge of trying to pull off a major upset against the 25-year-old Olympic star, who has sparred with his older brother Nick.

“I only got offered it last Thursday, so it was pretty last-minute, but that’s the way it is with these kinds of fights and I was happy to take it,” said the Contender Gym’s Blackwell.

“I’d been training for this week anyway and I feel good, so I’m looking forward to it.

“When you’re a journeyman, they bring you in because they don’t think that you’re going to be that good.

“I’ve only been stopped once (by Liam Williams, in February) and that was only because of a nosebleed so they may say to him ‘try to stay away from him and pick up the points’ or ‘try to take him out and make a statement’.

“Nick said that he leaves his body open a little bit but they sparred a little while ago and he may have worked on that since then.

“With his Olympic background, he’s obviously going to be able to out-box me, but it only takes one clean shot on the chin to change a fight in boxing.

“I’ve been in with Callum Smith (in November 2012), who’s gone on to do pretty well, but it’s not the same as Ogogo. It’s on a big show and it’s going to be televised, so I can’t wait for it.”

Saturday’s bill at the ExCel Arena will be shown live on Sky Sports on Saturday, beginning at 6pm on Sky Sports 3.
