CHRISTIAN Malford are without doubt the in-form side in Division Three, a 5-0 victory for the villagers away at Old Road FC provided them with a sixth straight win and in doing so saw the side who suffered defeat in their opening three games consolidate third place in the standings.

Malford playing with the wind behind their backs in the first half took an unusual lead in the 10th minute. Malford’s keeper Matt Hutchings long wind assisted kick from hand deceived Max Hardman in the Old Road goal as he allowed it to bounce and it did, over him and into the net.

Although Malford were dominant the strong wind was making it difficult for both teams.

Old Road had an early chance to equalise but Joey Bradshaw’s lob was too strong just skimming the crossbar. Paul Knight for Malford finally scored after 40 minutes converting Kevin Long’s cross from the left to give Malford a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes Knight scored again with a low shot to give Malford a 3-0 lead. James House for Old Road was working tirelessly for his team but the final ball was letting them down. Malford went in at the half with their 3-0 lead.

Old Road now had the wind advantage but Malford struck first in the 50th minute when Rob Lowe was brought down in the area and a penalty was awarded.

Scott Evans made no mistake from the spot sending the keeper the wrong way to give Malford a 4-0 advantage.

Old Road certainly got more into the game in this half but the Malford defence was looking very strong and there were few chances for Old Road.

Malford extended their lead after 75 minutes when their two substitutes combined to score. First Mark Brown’s shot was blocked but Keiran Sheils hit home the rebound for a 5-0 lead and with it another victory.

Malford were clearly pleased with their performances at the end of 2013 which have taken them from bottom to third place. Having no game next Sunday they now look forward to 2014.

The match was very well refereed by David Mullins.

Crossblades FC 1 Sportzcoach Dragons United 6

A 6-1 WIN for Sportzcoach Dragonz United at Crossblades saw them pick up their first win in three games.

A 26th goal of the season from Dan Moore put Sportzcoach ahead, a first goal of the campaign for Sam Hargreaves who kneed the ball in from a yard out doubled his team's advantage.

Mike Booth halved the deficit for Crossblades but his goal was little more than a consolation as a second from Dan Moore put Sportzcoach 3-1 after 45 minutes.

The second half was a similar affair to that of the first period, Moore took his tally for the morning to four before Sam Hargreaves tapped home from three yards out for his second of the game and Sportzcoach’s sixth.

Melksham Cosmos 4 Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 1

TROWBRIDGE Town Supporters Club suffered their first defeat in four games after they were beaten 4-1 by leaders Melksham Cosmos who will see the three points they got for the victory as reward for their efforts for switching the game from the Conigre to Christie Miller at short notice to save it from being postponed.

Alex Shaftoe gave Cosmos the lead which was doubled by Chris Berrelly and when Berrelly added a third for the leaders is was looking at if a rout was on the cards.

The supporters’ club reduced the arrears through Lewis Smith and although Danny Griffiths made the half time score 4-1 to Cosmos that was how things remained until the final whistle.

North Star B 3 Wren FC 1

CALNE-BASED rivals North Star B and Wren FC locked horns at Beversbrook and it was the former who were left with the bragging rights and the points following a hard-fought for 3-1 win.

After being unable to break the deadlock in the first half the first goal was always going to be important and that was scored by the Star’s leading scorer Jack Taylor in his penultimate game for the side before he emigrates to Australia.

Kadir Ayhan got Wren back on level terms and with five minutes remaining it looked as is his goal would see the points shared.

Karl Sharratt regained the lead for North Star and with time running out a second from Sharratt sealed victory for the hosts who are now unbeaten in their last five outings.
