TROWBRIDGE pilot John Jackson delivered a stunning result at the third round of the FIBT World Cup's four-man bobsleigh series in America today.

Jackson, who lives with British women's number one Paula Walker in Paxcroft Mead, drove his crew into second place at Lake Placid as the British quartet clinched their first World Cup podium.

Jackson, plus the crew of Stuart Benson, Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon, improved from seventh place after the first run to take silver just 0.07 seconds behind the United States.

The result capped a remarkable recovery from pilot Jackson who ruptured his Achilles in July and only recently returned to full training after surgery.

It was Great Britain's first FIBT World Cup podium in men's bobsleigh since Sean Olsson in 1997-98.

"I'm just really proud of the guys," British Bobsleigh's performance director Gary Anderson told BBC Sport.

"It's all about getting it right in Sochi but our trajectory looks good."

Jackson said on Twitter: "Grit, determination, courage, friendship, teamwork are all the reasons why we had our best result this weekend. Great job by all the team.

"Great to be on the podium for Great Britain for the 1st time in 16 years.''
