BATH United clinched the Aviva A League title tonight as they defeated Northampton Wanderers 29-20 in the final at Franklin's Gardens tonight.

United, skippered by prop Kane Palma-Newport, lifted the crown as tries from Tom Biggs, Gavin Henson, Charlie Beech and Richard Lane.

Biggs crossed the line early on with fly-half Tom Heathcote adding the conversion.

Northampton responded as Glenn Dickson kicked a penalty but the second Bath try arrived as centre Henson touched down after Nick Abendanon gathered his own chip ahead.

Heathcote converted from the touchline to put his side 14-3 up after only 10 minutes and then added a penalty, but Wanderers responded as Howard Packman touched down and Dickson added the extras.

Northampton piled on the pressure before half time as Palma-Newport was yellow carded and tied the scores when they awarded a penalty try.

Bath re-established their advantage just after the hour mark when a forwards drive allowed prop Charlie Beech to touch down and Heathcote converted.

Dickson kept Northampton in it with another penalty, but a try from Lane wrapped it up after a break by hooker Tom Dunn.
