FROME Town slumped to their fifth straight league defeat as Stourbridge hit seven goals without reply to inflict the Robins' worst defeat for many seasons.

On their day, Stourbridge are capable of destroying teams as a 7-0 victory over Weymouth and 9-0 triumph over Chippenham have proved.

Unfortunately for Frome, who started with new signing Matt Groves, from Weymouth, this was one of those days.

Stourbridge came flying out of the blocks at the start of the match and Luke Benbow’s surging run set up a chance for Sean Geddes but the shot went high and wide over the bar.

Two minutes later Groves was almost clean through but Darren Chitty was quickly out to clear and Chitty then produced a superb save with his feet to deny Leon Broadhurst.

Geddes curled a free kick just wide after 12 minutes and as the pressure became continuous, the inevitable came in the 16th minute as Ben Billingham twisted inside and outside of Matt Cowler before pulling the ball back for Geddes to fire past Chitty.

Stourbridge made it 2-0 in the 24th minute as Benbow went on a darting run through midfield and scored an excellent individual goal as he gave Chitty no chance.

Geddes helped himself to his second of the night as he converted a penalty after Josh Ford had taken down Kayelden Brown in the penalty area.

After Ryan Elliott had superbly stopped Brown’s surging run on goal, Frome had their first chance of the match in the 38th minute as a cross from Ledgister was flicked on by Ford to the unmarked Baggridge, but the shot was mistimed and trickled harmlessly behind the goal.

Geddes completed his hat-trick in the 39th minute as he produced a fantastic 25 yard shot that flew past Chitty and gave Stourbridge a 4-0 lead going into the interval.

As usual, Frome were better at the start of the second half, but after Ben Wood had carved out a shooting opportunity, Stourbridge went straight back up the other end and it was all too easy as Brown tucked home the fifth goal of the night for the hosts.

Another quick Stourbridge attack saw them hit the host in the 55th minute and only a goalline clearance by Ford prevented the sixth five minutes later.

But things went from bad to worse a minute later as an awful tackle by Tim Stephenson resulted in a straight red and Frome down to ten men.

Ben Wood was still trying for Frome and he released a powerful drive that was tipped behind for a corner, but then Stourbridge emphasised the gulf between the two sides as they grabbed two more goals in the last four minutes of the match through Richards and Oliver.
