CHIPPENHAM Town defender Greg Tindle has not been satisfied with his own form in recent weeks but is confident he and his side will improve sooner rather than later.

Tindle and his teammates were unable to pull off an upset last weekend as they were beaten 3-0 at home by title-chasers Hemel Hempstead Town.

Next up for Mark Collier’s men, who are currently 18th in the Calor League Premier Division, is trip to bottom side Bashley on Saturday, and defender Tindle reckons a positive Christmas period could kick off a resurgence.

“At the minute, we’re not really getting the rub of the green as a side. In training, everyone’s buzzing and everyone’s giving 110 per cent but things aren’t really going our way,” said Tindle.

“But you’ve got to remember that there are a lot of new faces that have come in, and there’s a couple that have left, and it’s going to take time to gel.

“And when it does, I have no questions that it’s going to be fine and we’re going to start climbing the table in the New Year.

“Tom (Jones, assistant manager) puts on some great sessions – they’re very quick-paced and you’re never stood around for too long, and I know that a lot of the boys appreciate the sessions and are getting a lot out of it.

“Unfortunately for me, when Mark first came in I was suspended. I’m a bit disappointed with my form at the moment and I think that I’m playing a bit indifferently right now.

“I’ve come back into the team and not necessarily done horrendously but I set my standards very high and I know that can do better. But I know that I’m mentally tough enough to get over that and kick on again in the New Year.

“I know that a lot of the younger lads look up to me, Grifter (Alan Griffin), Phillo (Lee Phillips) and Harvs (Iain Harvey) and it’s up to us to set an example.

“Next Saturday (at Bashley), Boxing Day against Frome and New Year’s Day at Hungerford are three massive games for us and it could really determine our season.

“If we could take seven points – I think we’re more than capable of doing it – I think we can kick on in the New Year.

“We’re not a side that should be scrapping at the bottom when you look at the quality we’ve got, but it just takes a little bit of time, hard work and everyone sticking together.”
