WARMINSTER School pupil Charles Dunn could find himself following a path along the same fairways as some of golf’s greatest names after being selected to join a prestigious tour of the USA.

The Year 12 student will join the 22nd British Independent Schools Golf Tour – known as the Swifts – at the start of the Easter holidays.

The touring party of eight boys and two adults will play matches on some of the finest courses on America’s East Coast.

Recent tours have taken in matches at the likes of Pine Valley – regularly voted number one course in the world – Merion, where Justin Rose won the 2013 US Open, and Congressional, the scene of Rory McIlroy’s triumph in the 2011 US Open.

Dunn, who plays out of the nearby West Wilts club, is a regular member of the men’s first team and has captained the Wiltshire U16 county team.

Headmaster Martin Priestley said: “Having led the tour twice in years gone by, I know that the Swifts Tour will offer Charles an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’’

European Tour winner, ex-English Amateur champion and former world top 50 player Ross McGowan is a previous member of the Swifts tour party.
