THE RACE to become Division One champions is shaping up nicely, with a number of teams entering the fray.

Current leaders Prestige Bodyworks are on the road away at Kings Arms (All Cannings) and with some tricky games on the horizon, this is a must win game for the visitors if they are to stay ahead in the hunt for a top-two finish.

Prestige should take the points from what should be a keenly-fought contest as their hosts have managed just one win from their last four games.

A three-match winless run has seen Goatacre CC’s challenge for honours fall off the rails but the good thing for the villagers is that the door remains ajar and if they can put together a winning run, they could yet feature in the hunt for silverware come May.

Goatacre’s next opponents are White Horse (Sunday) A, who have lost just once in eight games and will be slight favourites to pick up a third straight win and move into the top half of the table.

Last weekend saw North Star A boost their hopes of beating the drop thanks to a 5-0 win over Kings Arms.

The Calne-based side have home advantage for a second successive week but they will have to excel if they are to pick up a third straight win as their guests Corsham CC Wildcats have already beaten them 6-0 this term.

And although Scott Fleming’s side haven’t played since early December, the visitors are predicted to wrap up a double over Liam Westland’s hosts.

Somerford are the form side in the division and all the signs points to Spike Chandler’s side claiming their eighth win in ten games when they host basement side Chippenham West End.

The villagers have a perfect home record whereas the West End are still looking for their first win, and unless the hosts have a really bad day at the office, they will have to wait a little longer for a realistic chance to chalk up that all-elusvie victory.

Staverton and Bromham (Sunday) are fourth and third in the table respectively and both sides will go into their game at Atworth knowing just how important a victory is for both of them.

Defeat would almost certainly end the losers hopes of any silverware and seeing as Staverton won this season's earlier clash 3-0, they should complete a double over their guests.
