STAVERTON'S promotion hopes took a battering after they were beaten 9-3 by a Corsham CC Wildcats side who were grateful that the game actually went ahead after it was switched from their base at Yatton Road to Atworth, home of Staverton.

Corsham made the best possible start and were ahead inside the opening 30 seconds with Dan King finding the net.

Staverton’s response was lightening quick and almost immediately from the kick-off they were back on level terms with Levi Wood squaring things up at one each.

Adam Mitchell regained the lead for Corsham and Will Chivers made it 3-1 before a second of the morning from Mitchell gave his team a 4-1 advantage at the interval.

Staverton made a game of it at the start of the second half with goals from Sam Clark and Alex Richards reducing the deficit to the odd goal.

But that was as close as the villagers were to get as a third of the game for Adam Mitchell got Corsham back on track.

King added goals five and six to complete the second hat-trick of the game. A fourth for Mitchell took his tally for the season to 19 just one more than strike partner King.

The scoring was completed by Leigh Rogers whose goal was the icing on the cake as Corsham avenged their opening day 3-0 defeat to Staverton in style and with interest.

Kings Arms (All Cannings) 1 Goatacre CC FC 1

HONOURS were shared between Kings Arms (All Cannings) and Goatacre CC FC who fought out a 1-1 draw.

Neither team were unable to fashion an opener in the first half and it was Goatacre who broke the deadlock in the second period when Darren Holcombe headed in at the back post to put them ahead.

As the game wore on it was looking as if the cricketers’ would end their four match winless run but it wasn’t too be as with 10 minutes remaining Luke Chant cross-cum-shot nestled in the back of the visitors net for the equaliser for the home side that earned them a share of the points.
