ORGANISERS of the Wiltshire Schools Cross Country Championships are determined to hold the event this Saturday after the first attempt was aborted earlier this month.

The Championships will take place at Grittleton House School after an inspection of the course today gave it the green light.

The event was originally due to take place on January 18, but was postponed after heavy rain left the course waterlogged.

However, Wiltshire Schools’ Athletic Association's Tim Whiting said: "I have walked the course today and it is looking good.

"The parts still under water we can avoid by re-routing the course slightly.

"Some parts are obviously wet and muddy – but in cross country, this is to be expected. We are determined not to postpone it again.''

The first race at Grittleton House School is due off at 10.15am.
