WILTSHIRE Ladies gained ample revenge for a narrow one-shot defeat last year as they easily took the honours in this season’s annual showdown against the county men’s representative side.

The ladies won by the large margin of 49 shots as they ran-out 148-99 victors at North Wilts last Sunday.

The match was tight early on as the women only led 28-27 across the board at five ends but moved 71-58 clear at ten and led 91-83 after 15.

However, they powered away in the final six ends across the board scoring 57 shots and only conceding 16 to claim a comprehensive 148-99 victory and wipe-out last season’s agonising last end one shot loss.

The ladies took the honours on five of the six rinks with Janet Hardie’s quartet just outgunning Fizz Mace’s four 18-15 for top winning rink.

County president Evelyn Tape enjoyed an 11 shot success as a member of Joan Coleman’s foursome while Janet Bowker-Praed led her four to a six shots win.

Meanwhile Brenda Bowen’s rink trailed 18-9 at 15 ends but produced a successful late rally to beat county men’s secretary Dave Williams 21-19.

The only foursome to miss-out was the one skipped by Jean Collier who lost by three shots to Dave Edmonds rink.

Score: Wiltshire ladies beat Wiltshire Men 148-99.

HOWEVER, Wiltshire Ladies had suffered a 126-105 defeat at the hands of Somerset in their previous women’s friendly match.

They only took the honours in one of the six matches with president Evelyn Tape a member of the lone winning rink.

In fact if it had not been for Eileen Hawker, Sylvia Lucas, Evelyn Tape and skip Fizz Mace, who won 33-5, the losing deficit against Somerset would have been considerably higher.
