ANDREW Colebrooke aims to follow in the footsteps of his Clarrie Dunbar teammate Graham Shadwell this weekend, writes DAVE EATON.

The 2013 Clarrie Dunbar singles and Area 29/30 inter-area champion will be competing in the final stages of the Champion of Champions competition in Hayling Island, which Shadwell won last season.

Colebrooke beat Area 29 champion Andrew Owens (St Andrews, Weston SM) 21-6 to book his place in the Champion of Champions last 16 at the Warner Lakeside Coastal Village and faces 1999 champion and world number nine Mark Royal (Mid-Suffolk) in the opening round today (4pm).

If successful Colebrooke would face a quarter-final match tomorrow at 1.15pm against either Chris Daniels (Bournemouth) or Russell Robinson (Erewash, Notts).

He is also still running in two other national championship competitions.

Colebrooke and Kim Smith won the mixed pairs inter-area final 21-15 against area 29 champions Andrew Owens and his partner from Weston St Andrews to book a place in the last 16 at Lincoln on February 21.

Colebrooke has also reached the Area 30 final in the men’s national fours along with John Freeman, Keith Bailey and Russell Francis after they defeated Dick Discombe, Mike Sawyers, Alan Colebrooke and Graham Shadwell 24-17 in an all-Clarrie Dunbar semi-final.

They will now face Jason Ovens’ quartet from Bristol by February 16 in an are 30 final.

Clarrie still have an interest in one other men’s championship event – national pairs, with the duo of Craig Doughty and Shadwell facing North Wilts father and son combination Steve and Wayne Snook, from Melksham, in the Area 30 final.

Meanwhile the trio of Russell Milne, Dave Pitcher and Fred Pope lost 15-14 away in the area triples semi-finals to Mike Humphries (Bristol).

Alan Colebrooke lost to 21-19 to former England international Pip Branfield (Clevedon) in the O60 singles area semi-finals.

Colebrooke also lost with Dick Discombe and Mike Sawyers 19-12 to Martin Thorne (Nailsea) in the Area 30 final in the Over 50 triples.

And Keith Haines’ foursome went down in the Area 30 final in the 060 fours championship. The quartet of Haines, Peter Hooley, John Jones and Alan Colebrooke lost 20-11 to Michael Pratt’s rink (Purnell, Paulton).

Christie Miller’s Andy Moore has reached the Area 30 final in the singles championship.

Moore has beaten Clarrie Dunbar duo Norman Guffick 21-15 and Keith Bailey 21-8 and followed that up with 21-5 success over Martin Thorne (Nailsea).

In the singles semi-finals Moore coasted past Bristol’s Eric Seavill 21-9 to book an Area 30 final spot against Clevedon’s Mark Woods, a 21-14 semis winner over Bristol’s Paul Bryant.

However, locals Richard Jennings and his partner lost 19-9 in the Over 60’s pairs semi-final to Don Dart (Purnell) and Malcolm Curtis was edged out on the last end 21-20 by Terry Barnes (Bristol) in the Over 60s singles area semi-finals.
