ANDREW Colebrooke bowed out in the first round (last 16) of the final stages of the Champion of Champions singles competition at Warner Leisure Coastal Village, Hayling Island last weekend, writes DAVE EATON.

The 2013 Clarrie Dunbar men’s singles champion and Area 29/30 inter-area champion lost 21-4 to world number nine Mark Royal (Mid-Suffolk), a two-time Champion of Champions winner, in the opening round.

Colebrooke will be hoping for a better run in the national mixed pairs competition final stages (last 16) with Clarrie colleague Kim Smith which will be held at Lincoln later this month.

Colebrooke also has an interest in the national fours having reached the Area 30 final with John Freeman, Keith Bailey and Russell Francis. They are due to face in the final Jason Ovens’ rink from Bristol.

Clarrie are still involved in one other men’s championship event - Area 30 final of national pairs.

The duo of Craig Doughty and Graham Shadwell will meet North Wilts father and son combination of Steve and Wayne Snook at Street on Saturday, February 15 (6.30pm).

Meanwhile, eightplayers from Clarrie were in the Somerset men’s side that were beaten 118-88 last Saturday by Sussex in the quarter-finals of the Liberty Trophy, inter-county championship.

Graham Shadwell, Craig Doughty, Keith Bailey, Andy Colebrooke, Russell Francis, Neil Collett, Dale Taylor and Terry Perkins all played for Somerset in the match with Sussex on the neutral green at Loddon Vale (Basingstoke).
