RUGBY: Frome 0 Trowbridge 24
2:30pm Tuesday 18th February 2014 in Sport
TROWBRIDGE warmed for for Saturday’s South West Intermediate Cup final against Ivybridge by putting local rivals Frome to the sword in Southern Counties South.
The Trowbridge pack showed their strength and power in muddy conditions to dominate the Frome forwards for most of the game.
The first try was a penalty try awarded to the visitors when going for a pushover although Lloyd Davis slipped and mis-kicked the simplest of conversions in front of the posts.
The next score came from Kyle Knight breaking through the Frome defence from the base of a set scrum to score out wide again.
Frome started the second half at pace but the slippery ball put an end to some good attacks for the home side and, with the Trowbridge pack able to steal ball at the scrums, the hosts were denied a lot of possessio.
Jackson Szabo was the next to get on the scoresheet with an accurate grubber kick and chase in behind the defence to touch down in the corner, Davis landing his first successful conversion.
The visitors continued to put Frome under pressure for most of the half but seemed unable to turn possession into points until Adam Sullivan got the breakthrough to score out wide, Davis adding the extras.
