SKIPPER Matt Howard is daring to dream of a Trowbridge trip to Twickenham but says his side have their sights fully set on overcoming Ivybridge in the South West Intermediate Cup final tomorrow.

Trowbridge made it to the regional final after sweeping aside Bletchley in the Southern Counties final earlier this month.

They now find themselves two games away from an awe-inspiring national final at the home of English rugby.

Howard concedes that it is impossible not to have Twickenham at the back of his mind but the back row is relishing the immediate challenge of downing Tribute Western Counties West league leaders Ivybridge at Doric Park tomorrow.

“It’s really exciting because it’s one of the biggest games that Trowbridge have ever had,” said Howard, pictured right.

“We’ve trained twice this week and you’re trying everything you can to just stay relaxed and treat it like you’re getting ready for any other game.

“But it’s hard not to get excited about what’s coming and I just want to get out there now.

“They’re flying high at the top of their league, just like Bletchley were when we dispatched them.

“They’ve got to travel all the way up from Devon, so we’ll try our best to get at them straight away.

“I think it’s a 50-50 game and we’ve got just as good a chance as them to go through.

“Obviously, you can’t forget about Twickenham. It would be an absolute pleasure to lead these boys out there.

“We’ve got to do all we can to try and get there, starting this weekend.”

Victory over Ivybridge would send Trowbridge into a national semi-final against the side to emerge from the London & South East Intermediate Cup competition.

The victors at the last-four stage would then go on to play the champions of the North and Midlands sections at Twickenham.

Trowbridge coach Steve Ojomoh believes home support can play a big part during tomorrow’s clash.

The former Bath and England man said: “In the last few weeks, I think the Trowbridge supporters have found their voice and it really does make a difference to us.

“A few weeks ago (the cup match against Bletchley) something amazing happened and all I’d ask is ‘please, can we have some more of the same?’

“It would be great to get people out there to support us again and I know the players would love to see that.’’

Ojomoh added: “We know absolutely nothing about Ivybridge whatsoever and that means we can concentrate on our own game.

“We’ve been looking forward to this game for a while.’’

Trowbridge warmed upr for tomorrow’s final by putting local rivals Frome to the sword in Southern Counties South.

The Trowbridge pack showed their strength and power in muddy conditions to dominate the Frome forwards for most of the game.

The first try was a penalty try awarded to the visitors when going for a pushover although Lloyd Davis slipped and mis-kicked the simplest of conversions in front of the posts

The next score came from Kyle Knight breaking through the Frome defence from the base of a set scrum to score out wide again.

Frome started the second half at pace but the slippery ball put an end to some good attacks for the home side and, with the Trowbridge pack able to steal ball at the scrums, the hosts were denied a lot of possession.

Jackson Szabo was the next to get on the scoresheet with an accurate grubber kick and chase in behind the Frome defence to touch down in the corner, Davis landing his first successful conversion.

The visitors continued to put Frome under pressure for most of the half but seemed unable to turn possession into points until Adam Sullivan got the breakthrough to score out wide, Davis adding the extras.
