MARTIN Bradfield and Joe Martin’s second division leaders Lacock edged a step closer to the title after claiming a 3-1 win at fellow promotions hopefuls Westwood News, who played their part in what was an entertaining game of football played out in difficult conditions at Westwood’s Bobbin Lane base and well refereed by Alan Thompson.

In an evenly-matched first half hour chances came and went for both teams and it was Lacock’s Simon Gray who made the important breakthrough on 31 minutes when rode two challenges and coolly slotted home from inside the area to give the visitors the lead which they managed to double before half time when Jake Marshall headed home for 2-0.

The second period saw Westwood work their was back into the contest and on 50 minutes Charlie Powell’s glancing header reduced the deficit for the hosts, but is neat finish proved to be just a consolation as Stuart Tutty finally killed Westwood off with Lacock’s third of the game.

Westwood did get the ball in the net a second time but Powell’s effort was ruled out for offside and Lacock were able to see out time to claim their tenth win of the season and extend their unbeaten run to 12 games.
