A SEVENTH straight defeat for Wren FC leaves the Calne based side with a fight on their hands to stay in Division Three.

Matt Fenn’s side started their campaign with a 7-2 victory over Pig & Whistle United and for a short while it looked as if they would have a chance of dropping their tag of whipping boys.

But after back to back wins at the end of October and start of November they have lost their way. Their latest game saw them on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line as United avenged their opening day loss.

Graham Pearce, whose goal a few weeks ago earned Pig & Whistle victory over FC North Wiltshire, gave his team the lead and Sean Meer made it 2-0 before Pearce scored direct from a corner to claim his second and the Pig’s third of the morning.

Not to be outdone strike partner Sean Meer doubled up to give the hosts a 4-0 half-time lead. The second half saw Wren start something of a fightback as a double from Kidar Ayhan and Simon Young’s well-taken effort got them to within one goal of their hosts.

Wren were unable to claim a fourth and it was Mark Bridger who settle the Pig’s nerves when he found the net to wrap up their fourth win in their last five games.

North Star B 10 Worton & Cheverell 0

A TEN-MAN Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) squad turned up to Beaversbrook to play their game with North Star B including 51-year-old Chris Cole, who was chuffed to have completed the 90 minutes but a little disappointed in the result as his team suffered a 10-0 loss.

Jay Watkin netted the first two Star goals, Mickey Taraskevics made it 3-0 before Watkin completed his hat-trick.

Steve Allison bagged number five prior to half time and after the break the hosts struck another five. Taraskevics struck three more time as he took his tally for the morning to four. A goal each for Marcus Lovesey and Mark Dolman made up the winners 10.
