Shamed Trowbridge snooker star has first part of ban appeal rejected

Wiltshire Times: Stephen Lee Stephen Lee

The first part of Trowbridge snooker player Stephen Lee’s appeal against a 12 year ban from the sport has been rejected.

The 39-year-old, of Birch Gardens, Hilperton, was given the suspension last September after being found guilty of seven charges of match-fixing dating back to 2008 and 2009.

During the first part of the appeal, which took place earlier this month, Lee’s legal team alleged bias against Adam Lewis QC who oversaw the proceedings which lead to Lee’s conviction last year.

Lee’s legal team claimed that Mr Lewis shouldn't have been able to convict him because he’d represented Leyton Orient Football Club in their battle to with West Ham United Football Club to take over the Olympic Stadium in London.

Leyton Orient’s chairman is Barry Hearn is World Snooker’s chairman. Edwin Glasgow QC, who is overseeing the appeal, rejected the submissions.

A date for the remainder of Lee’s appeal has yet to be scheduled.

Went to 'VIP' opening of a curry house in Chippenham.

(Im not a VIP!!, girlfriend at the time was pushy and knew all the councillors so we got invited)

'Celebrity' guests were Jimmy White and Stephen Lee.

Jimmy was polite, signed autographs and met everyone despite looking embarrassed to be there. Stephen Lee and his enormous shaven headed mate spent the entire opening speech (made by the owner, his mate, and then Chippenham's MP) talking in the corner. Incredibly ignorant.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Agreed.

I remember back when I worked behind the bar in The Junction (yes, that long ago!) Steven Lee came in with Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Ronnie was happy to wait his turn at the bar, Steven Lee complained about not getting preferential treatment and genuinely used the phrase "don't you know who I am?".

I've never had any respect for him since that moment.

First of all, for all you know Donnyfly might be my real name, and second of all, I may well post "negative" comments, or as I like to call them "differing points of view", but I do not personally insult anyone.

As for yours, and others, comments here regarding Stephen Lee, I suggest you look up the word 'schadenfreude' in a dictionary.

I'm guessing Stephen Lee has contributed far more to the economy through tax payments than you have. And every one pays tax in some form, whether they work hard or not.

That's a rather presumptuous statement Mrs D, you have no idea how much tax I pay!

Apart from being clinically obese the guy looks like he could (just about) drive a taxi or do any other form of non manual labour but he would rather sponge off hard working tax payers!

Parasite!

I know I don't, that's why I said "I'm guessing" he has paid more in tax (income tax) than you. Did you miss that bit? My reasoning is that if you were successful with a good income you most likely wouldn't be posting criticisms of others on here with such a sour disposition.

And why must the word taxpayers always be preceded by 'hard working'?

So you are a Psychologist Mrs D?

There you go again presuming how successful I am and what my mental disposition is.... tut tut and having read some of your comments I think of that old idiom "pot kettle black"
