BOY, oh boy, do we have a good finish to the Six Nations Championship in prospect now after a dramatic middle weekend.

Where’s your money now?

You can certainly make a case for three of the sides who are still in the mix and we’re all set up for a fantastic finale to the tournament.

I didn’t think any team was going to win the Grand Slam this year and that’s been borne out by the results.

You have to admire England for their victory over Ireland at Twickenham.

Character is the word which best describes their performance and that’s what I call a Stuart Lancaster side.

Make no mistake, they came under a hell of a lot of pressure in that match because Ireland did not play badly at all.

I think the Irish will curse the fact that they didn’t have Tommy Bowe available to them in their backline.

For me, that little bit of cutting edge – and Jonathan Sexton probably not being in top form – was the only thing missing from their performance because they kept hold of the ball very well.

England made a massive statement by holding on for victory. If they are going to have a chance in next year’s World Cup, they need opponents to think ‘uh oh, we’re going to Twickenham.’

England versus Wales next week promises to be another humdinger of a game, but I can see England getting the win because they can deny Wales the ball at the lineout.

Wales haven’t found the level they had last year. Factor in a bit of fatigue from the Lions tour and a change in scrum laws and it possibly gives England the edge – but it will be close.

However, I do believe that Ireland can go to France in their last game and get the victory because this looks a poor French side.

Then it comes down to a question of points difference, in which Ireland have the edge at the moment.
