SOUTHWICK Wanderers took full advantage of Miller Sports' inactivity to claim pole position in the battle to claim one of the two promotion places from Division Two.

With Wanderers' manager Matt Rusling opting for a day out at Priestly Grove, Calne, rather than a trip to Wembley to watch his beloved Man City lift the Capital One Cup, his loyalty to his team paid off as a 4-3 victory over Talbot FC saw his team move two points clear of their rivals.

Southwick fell behind to a trademark Dean Fry goal, but they turned things around to lead 3-1 at the interval thanks to goals from Pete Spong, an awesome Phil Stamp own goal and a first goal of the club from Marc Sheppard.

Talbot rallied in the second half and clawed things back to 3-3 via a second of the game from Dean Fry and Matt Law’s silky finish.

With chances falling at both ends it was Southwick who snatched the spoils thanks to a fourteenth goal of the season from Jack Parker that earned Rusling’s side their sixth win of the season.

Sutton Benger 3 Potterne CFC 2

A 3-2 VICTORY  for Sutton Benger over Potterne CFC on the 3G pitch at Stanley Park gave Mark Merriman’s side their third successive victory and also saw them complete a double over Pete Huntley’s side who they beat 3-1 earlier in the season.

Benger and their guests traded first-half goals with Chris Miles seeing his opener for the home team cancelled out by Ben Mason.

The second half saw Rob Kent hit two goals to win it for Benger, his second being a wonder goal from 70 yards out. Ben House netted from the penalty spot for Benger’s second of the game.
