CHIPPENHAM Town manager Mark Collier says his side must work on dispelling their away day blues after they slipped to a fourth successive defeat on the road on Tuesday night.

The Bluebirds, who were beaten 1-0 by Arlesey Town in Bedfordshire, have not tasted victory away from home since they beat local rivals Frome Town in the Red Insure Cup last October.

Their last league triumph on the road came when the side – then managed by caretaker boss Steve Winter – took all three points at Stourbridge in September.

But Collier has identified plenty of positives in recent away displays and says that the key to the Bluebirds picking up results again will be producing a complete 90-minute performance.

“On Tuesday night, we spoke about our away form on the coach on the way back – it’s something that we need to address,” said the Hardenhuish Park chief, whose side were 2-1 winners at home to Burnham last Saturday.

“We haven’t been getting results away from home, and we know that, but some of our away performances have been very good.

“We did well against St Albans City (on February 17) and played well again at Arlesey.

“We haven’t been getting our just rewards and I think that’s because we’ve been playing well and passing the ball for an hour.

“What we need to do is make sure that we’re performing for 90 minutes and, once we do that, we’ll pick up results again.”

Collier’s men are on the road again this weekend when they make the trip to bottom-of-the-table Bedford Town.

Despite being stung at fellow strugglers Bashley and St Neots Town in recent weeks, the Hardenhuish Park boss thinks that Saturday’s assignment provides the perfect opportunity for Chippenham to shatter their poor away record.

Collier said: “The boys will be physically ready and they’ve got to be mentally ready to go there and perform.

“We’ll be passing the ball and playing our football and we’ll go there looking to put in a performance that will reward us with the three points.”

James Guthrie returns to a fully-fit Bluebirds squad after missing the last two games through suspension.
