ADRIAN Foster was left cursing a former housemate after Poole Town’s Steve Devlin struck twice to see off his Frome Town side on Monday night.

After falling two goals behind, the Robins launched a spirited comeback to get themselves back on level terms.

But a stunning 30-yard-effort from Poole midfielder Devlin, who played under Foster at Toolstation League Gillingham Town, killed off Frome hopes, with Devlin also netting the hosts’ fourth from the penalty spot.

The Robins boss thought that referee Adam Penwell’s decision not to send off Poole defender Will Spetch in the first half had a big impact on his side failing to come away from Tatnam with at least a point.

“I know Steve Devlin because I had him at Gill and he even spent a little bit of time living with me in Yeovil – I know that he scores goals,” said Foster.

“As soon as he got the ball on his left foot, I was desperate for someone to come out and close him down but he took a touch and just blasted it. (Darren) Chitty had no chance.

“They scored two goals in the first half, which was a bit of a sucker punch, but at the end of the first half, Matt Groves nicked the ball off one of their players, knocked it into the box and was tugged back but the referee only booked him.

“The referee said ‘he wasn’t going to get there’ but he definitely was and they should have been down to 10 men.

“Poole had some good players and they were a strong side but I thought we definitely could have got a win or at least a point out of the game.”

Quick-fire goals from Jamie Whisken and Ekow Elliott put Poole in control but after Groves was controversially tugged back Frome defender Jack Vallis headed home a Jon Vance free-kick.

After Elliott was penalised for handball, Kris Miller fired home the equaliser from the penalty spot but Devlin restored the home side’s lead before Elliott made up for conceding a spot-kick by winning one up the other end, Devlin converting to make it 4-2.

Foster’s men ended the evening with 10 men after Ricky Hulbert was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident.

On Saturday, Ben Wood’s goal was enough for the Robins to see off struggling AFC Totton 1-0 at Badgers Hill. Foster was hoping to complete the signing of a new striker this week.

Meanwhile, Frome’s home has been renamed the Blindmans Brewery Stadium after the club announced the local brewers as their new stadium sponsors.

Last week, the Robins announced plans to install a new synthetic 3G pitch at their ground.

Blindmans, who have been associated with Frome for a number of years, are also current shirt sponsors.
