THE sending-off of Warminster’s Adam Matthew proved a decisive turning point as the amber and blues lost their penultimate Dorset & Wilts One South match.

The visitors made a fine start, racing into a ten-point lead after just ten minutes.

A Jason Sprangle penalty opened proceedings and soon after came what proved to be Warminster’s final score of the game.

The on-rushing Frome defence left space in behind them and fly-half Gavin Pratt dinked a chip over the top, a slightly fortuitous bounce falling into the hands of chasing flanker Adam Matthew who sprinted to the line, Sprangle converting.

Five minutes late though Matthew was shown a straight red card.

Matthew took exception to an apparent knee to the head of hooker Alex Jenkins and did likewise to a Frome defender, sparking a melee.

Matthew was red-carded for his part, as others escaped punishment for the fracas, leaving Warminster up against it for the remaining 65 minutes.

Frome duly took advantage, in particular using their well-executed driving maul at lineouts from which they gained their only try of the first half.

The Somerset side continued to hold the upper hand after the break and a further driving maul and fly-half break brough them a further two scores.

While Warminster coughed up possession with knock-ons and Frome took advantage, scoring a further two tries to wrap up victory.
