WITH Division One leaders Prestige Bodyworks unable to raise a team for their match with Goatacre CC due to players being away on a stag do, it left second-placed Somerford FC in an ideal position to close the gap on their title-chasing rivals to seven points and Spike Chandler’s side duly obliged by beating Kings Arms (All Cannings) 5-1.

Matt Spear, who is having a great season in front of goal for Somerford, gave the lead and went on to completed a first-half hat-trick that took his tally for the season to 14, Leigh Blanchard put through his own net to give Somerford a 4-0 interval lead.

Jacob Rogers' brilliant header saw Kings Arms reduced the deficit, but any hopes of a second-half comeback was shortlived as Matt Holdaway netted a fifth for Somerford to hand them an important victory in the battle for top spot.

North Star A 1 White Horse A 3

SINCE losing to Somerford back in October, White Horse A have slowly crept up the standings and their latest victory.

Their sixth on the spin came at North Star A and a 3-1 success for Clive Black’s side keep them very much in the hunt for a top two placing.

Jordan Gullis turned in a Dale Rowland cross to give White Horse a half-time lead.

White doubled their advantage on 60 minutes, Gullis breaking into the box before being felled for a penalty which was converted by Nick Mead for 2-0 and a second from Gullis who scored after being played in by Paul Beavers made it a comfortable win in the end for the Westbury side.

A first goal of the season for Pete Thornton was the Star’s lone reply.

MATCH OFF: Prestige Bodyworks v Goatacre CC FC.
