BOWLS: Anderson thrilled by England call
KYLE Anderson has been named in the players invited to attend the England Men’s Junior International trial at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa, on Monday, May 26.
It is the first time that Anderson, 21, from the Wootton Bassett club has received a call-up to an England junior international team trial.
A brilliant young prospect he has been playing the game since the age of nine when he started at local club Wanborough with his father John before the pair switched to Westlecot in 2004.
Kyle played for Westlecot for nine seasons outdoors and reached a very standard with 2010 being extremely productive.
He made his Wiltshire debut in the inter-county championship for the Middleton Cup in 2010 and also completed a county double winning both the Wiltshire U25 singles title and the county unbadged singles.
Anderson changed clubs again last season. His father stayed at Westlecot where he is on the committee but Kyle moved on to Wootton Bassett to improve his game and more importantly get far more involved in national competitions.
“I was hoping that I had been nominated for a trial but didn’t know or not,” said a delighted Anderson.
“When the email came it was out of the blue but a big surprise - I am well chuffed and to be honest still in a state of shock.
“Now I will have to come back home and get some serious practice in quickly as the trial is on May 26. I am busy at the moment preparing for my final exams at university.
“However, I finish at university in a couple of months time then it should be much easier back playing fully towards the vital part of the outdoor season.”
Anderson is currently in his last year at Brighton University studying for a degree in finance and investment and takes his final examinations in the next couple of months.
Then he will be free once more to pursue his favourite sport of bowls and the national competitions.
Last year in his first season at Wootton Bassett, Anderson together with Lawrence Smith, Tom Walkley and Dave Snell reached the quarter-finals of the national fours at Worthing before losing by a single shot 20-19 to Sawston (Cambs) who went on to miss-out in the final to Cornwall.
