LONG-TIME Division Three leaders Melksham Cosmos may have booked their spot in Division Two for next season but they had to produce something special away at local rivals Pig & Whistle United to keep their three-point lead over Sportzcoach Dragonz United at the top of the table.

Cosmos trailed United 2-0 but they came back strongly to overturn their deficit and claim a nail-biting 3-2 win.

Sean Meer’s penalty and a Rob O’Harrow strike had given Pig & Whistle a 2-0 lead.

Jake Sainsbury reduced the arrears before half-time and second half goals for Jason Hull and top-scorer Alex Shaftoe ,who took his tally for the season to 21, won it for Cosmos.

Christian Malford 3 North Star B 3

After taking a 3-0 half time lead at home to North Star B, third-placed Christian Malford were left hanging on at the end as their fourth-placed opponents fought back to claim a thrilling 3-3 draw.

A first goal for the club from Alex Warburton and a Paul Knight double had put Malford in what seemed to be total control.

But Rob Lymath started the revival and an Adam Welsh brace completed it, but unlike last Sunday when North Star went on to beat Wren 4-3, they couldn’t find a winner and both sides were happy to settle for a point each for their efforts.

Crossblades FC 3 Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) 4

Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) boosted their hopes of beating the drop thanks to a tense 4-3 victory away at fellow relegation-battlers Crossblades FC, who played their part in what was a thrilling contest and a great advert for Sunday football.

With both sides desperate for the points, it was little surprise that the game started at a frantic pace and continued in a high tempo throughout.

Crossblades opened the scoring through Ashley Bartels and they doubled their lead when a slight loss of concentration at the near post by Tom North allowed Bartels to add his and the Blades' second.

Crossblades got themselves back in the game before the break, Jake Flower chasing a through ball from Mark White to reduce the deficit to the odd goal.

Worton made a couple of changes at the break and these seemed to breathe new life into the visitors, who leveled the score via a second from Flowers, which came from the penalty spot.

Sam Thompson regained the lead for Crossblades only for Flower to score his and Worton’s third to make it three goals apiece.

With Worton now in the ascendancy and chasing their first victory in eight outings, they conjured up a winner as Flower turned his marker and placed the ball into the corner of the net to seal his hat-trick.

Sportzcoach Dragonz United 6 Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 2

Sportzcoach Dragonz United followed up their 6-0 victory over Trowbridge Town Supporters Club with a 6-2 triumph that means they are guaranteed a top two finish - but they will have to wait a couple more weeks to find it it will be as winners or runners-up.

Dan Moore, Ashley Barnett, Dean Moore and Tom Smith, with the Dragon’s 100th goal of the seaso,n put them 4-0 up before Dean Coles pulled a goal back for the Supporters’ Club.

Dean Moore added his second and Sportzcoach's fifth before a second from Coles cut their lead for a second time.

But Dan Moore completed the scoring for Sportzcoach with his 48th league goal of the season.
