JEANETTE Wheeler was the most successful competitor at the annual Clarrie Dunbar Indoor Club Championships last weekend, writes DAVE EATON.

Wheeler contested three finals – the ladies club singles championship, two wood singles and ladies pairs – and won them all.

She beat holder Kathy Walker 21-10 in the top ladies event, club singles championship, stormed to a 21-2 victory over Thelma Deane in the two wood singles and linked up with Ann Jones to defeat holders Ailsa Midwinter and Jo Dunford 29-18 in the pairs.

Andrew Colebrooke completed a double, beating Brian Hawkins 21-15 in the men’s club singles championship and Russell Francis 21-10 in the two wood singles.

Wheeler and Colebrooke will represent Dunbar next season (2014-15) in the national champion of champions competition.

Doubles were also recorded by Duncan McGovern and Peter Hooley.

McGovern retained his pairs title, partnering Keith Bailey to a 29-18 win and lifted the Open Singles when beating Francis.

Hooley took the Open Novices Singles, beating Ian Johnstone in the final 21-10 and linking up with Alfie Tucker and Craig Doughty to win the men’s triples.

Fours: Andrew Taylor, Ian Perkins, Terry Perkins & Dale Taylor beat Russell Milne, Francis Parker, Paul Hewitt & Fred Pope 22-17.

Open Pairs (sets): Paul Hewitt & Fred Pope beat Andy & Dale Taylor 2-1 (3-10, 7-4, 2-0).

ANDY Moore from Christie Miller, the last player from the area left in the national championships at Melton & District lost in the first round (last 32) of the singles championship to Phil Epton (Gedling, Nottingham) 21-15.
