STAVERTON’S Chris Roxburgh warmed up for his second crack at the Duathlon World Championships by clinching a bronze medal at Sunday’s National Championships in North Yorkshire.
Roxburgh, who represented Great Britain in the 25-29 age group in Ottawa, Canada, last year, finished third in the 30-34 category at Newby Hall last weekend, clocking in with a time of two hours, three minutes and 20 seconds.
The Wiltshire duathlete was delighted with his medal-winning performance and is hoping that he’s on the path to a successful display at this summer’s Worlds, which being in Pontevedra, Spain, on May 31.
“It was a good result for me and I was really happy to come back with a medal, especially as I didn’t really taper for the event,” said Roxburgh.
“Because of the way the course was set out, the bike ride was 42km, rather than 40.
“I got overtaken and really had to work hard to chase down the guy that went past me but I managed to do that on the run and came home with nobody else around me.
“It’s the last competition before Spain for me and I’ve worked really hard with my coach Andy MacKenzie.
“I feel like I’m going in the right direction.”
