CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Pig keep whistling a happy tune
8:00am Friday 18th April 2014 in Sport
AFTER beating Worton & Cheverell 3-2 on Tuesday evening, Pig & Whistle United were in action again 48 hours later.
Richard Allen’s side, who still hold aspirations of finishing in third spot in Division Three, kept their hopes alive after they beat an Old Road side who are one of five teams fighting to stay in the division 3-1.
Graham Griffiths, who has hit something of a purple patch in front of goal for the Pig in recent week, gave the Melksham side the lead.
Dan Stevens restored parity for Old Road before Mark Bridger struck a wonder goal to regain the lead for Pig & Whistle. After a patient team move the ball was cross to Bridger who from 22 yards picked his spot and drilled the ball into the top corner.
After the interval Pig sealed victory and wrapped up the points courtesy of a Max Hardman own goal.
Worton & Cheverell 4 North Star B 1
A 4-1 VICTORY for Worton & Cheverell at home to North Star B should have secured the villagers' status in the division for next season.
Worton are one of six teams who mathematically could still go down, but with 20 points and three matches still to play against sides below them in the table it would be a shock if Worton didn’t beat the drop.
Declan Blandford and Jake Flower scored two each for the winners with Adam Moody netting the Star’s consolation in what was their final game of the season.
