THE Division One top of the table clash between Somerford and Prestige Bodyworks lived up to all the pre-match expectations as both sides produced a top quality contest that eventually saw Prestige edge a seven-goal thriller to claim a 4-3 victory and the title.

Prestige saw their title hopes suffer a setback in midweek when they were beaten by Goatacre, but the Chippenham side saw a return to form when it mattered most and led 2-0 at the break courtesy of goals from Tom Bentley and Adam O’Keeffe.

It looked to be game over for Somerford when O’Keeffe made it 3-0 when his shot deflected in, but Somerford staged a great revival and thanks to two Will Gale goals, his second being a spectacular strike from 40 yards, they reduced the gap to the odd goal.

Prestige regained a two-goal cushion when Matt Hopper put them 4-2 up via the penalty spot.

Back came Somerford and an Ashley Monaghan penalty set up a tense finish before Prestige held on to take the victory and with it the title.

Referee, Sam Gooding had an excellent game in the middle.

Corsham CC Wildcats 6 Goatacre CC FC 7

CORSHAM CC Wildcats claimed a thrilling 5-3 victory over fellow cricketers Goatacre CC FC when the sides last met.

But in the reverse meeting at Yatton Road, the roles were reversed and it was Goatacre who triumphed in a 13-goal thriller.

Goals from Adam Mitchell and Simon Burt gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead which was wiped out by a double from Ed Wilkins.

Dan King reclaimed the lead for the Wildcats who then found themselves trailing 5-3 as goals for Rob Murphy and a third of the morning for Wilkins put Goatacre in charge.

A second from King got the Wildcats to within a goal of their guests only for Andy Davis to put through his own net which put Goatacre 6-4 in front.

Two more goals from King, that took his personal tally for the game to four, squared things up at 6-6 and it looked as if the points would be shared.

But Wilkins fired in the winner for Goatacre to claim his fourth of the morning and his team's seventh of an incredible game of football.
