TEN-MAN Worton & Cheverell may have suffered a 6-1 defeat at home to Trowbridge Town Supporters Club, but as other results went the way of both sides it means they are safe in the knowledge that they will be playing third division football again next season.

Worton were up against a full-strength Trowbridge side at Northbrook and they visitors quickly made their numerical advantage count, Sean O’Brien scoring the supporters’ club first two goals.

His first was a 25 yarder and his second came from the spot after a dubious call for a penalty after Scott Walker tumbled in the area.

Trowbridge went into the break 4-0 to the good after further goals from Rob Elliott and Dean Coles put them in charge.

Worton tightened things up at the back in the second half and they were able to pull a goal back with Jamie White thumping home what was to be their consolation before Rob Elliott added his second of the morning and Andy Russell found the target to give the supporters’ club their 6-1 win.

Crossblades FC 2 Melksham Cosmos 4

A 4-2 VICTORY for Melksham Cosmos at relegation-threatened Crossblades FC keeps them as the team to beat for the title.

They have their destiny in their own hands as their final game of the campaign next weekend sees them visit Sportzcoach Dragonz United in what could possibly be a winner-takes-all title decider, depending on how Sportzcoach get on in their two midweek games.

Goals from Phil Carter, Jake Sainsbury and Adam Potter put Cosmos 3-1 ahead at half time after Ashley Bartells had given Crossblades the lead.

A second from Bartells reduced the arrears for Crossblades to make things a little uncomfortable for the leaders but when Alex Shaftoe fired in his 22nd goal of the season it was job done for Cosmos who head into their biggest game of the season not having lost in their last ten games.
