FC NORTH Wiltshire, who have struggled for much of the season, have come good when it really mattered.

Last season’s Division Four champions were on the brink of relegation at the start of the month before a victory against Trowbridge Town Supporters Club boosted their hopes of staying in Division Three.

North Wilts travelled to an in-form Pig & Whistle United side on Tuesday evening and a surprise 3-2 win means that unless things go dramatically wrong in their final game at Worton & Cheverell, they will have produced a great escape.

Dan Deacon put North Wilts in front on 20 minutes, but their lead didn’t last for long as just three minutes Rob O’Harrow got Pig & Whistle back on level terms.

A first goal for the club for James Mulhall restored North Wilts lead on 37 minutes.

North Wilts extended their advantage in the 57th minute, Dan Kelly bagging his first of the season to make it 3-1.

Mark Bridger educed the arrears for United four minutes later but the Melksham based, who were playing their fifth match in 12 days and who will be action again on Thursday evening, were unable to get back on level terms as North Wilts held out to claim what was a huge win in their battle to stave of an immediate return to Division Four.
