UPAVON rider Morgan Edwards will have a second crack at breaking in to the big time when he heads Stateside again this summer, looking to impress at the world’s largest amateur motocross competition.

Edwards, 21, who has raced across the pond since the age of 16, flew out to compete in last year’s AMA (American Motorcycle Association) Amateur Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn Ranch, in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, but a dislocated shoulder he suffered in an accident curtailed his campaign.

But, after licking his wounds, Edwards is set to return to Tennessee on June 10 to take on Loretta Lynn once again and put himself in the shop window in front of a host of professional team scouts.

“I had an accident in the first motocross at Loretta Lynn last year and dislocated my shoulder, which put me out of action for a good few weeks,” said the Wiltshire speedster.

“Having got so close, I trained hard this winter and competed in a number of championships, and I’ve again qualified for Loretta Lynn – hopefully I will have better luck than last year.

“It’s an awesome track, being very technical, and last year it caught a lot of the world’s top riders out.”

In March, Edwards warned up for his AMA Championships bow by picking up one of the best results of his career – a second-placed class finish at the Daytona Amateur Supercross, at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

He said: “There were over 1300 riders and live media coverage. The competition is definitely a huge event, with scouts and contingency from most of the main bike manufacturers.

“It was clear from the footage that my training paid off as my stamina helped me increase my lap times and had I had just a quarter of a lap would have taken the win.

“Getting to the States and to get this far has been expensive and in order to pursue my dream, I even had to sell my beloved car to fund the trip.

“I am always looking for new sponsors and now have a web site and a Facebook page where I can be contacted, so that anyone that is interested can get in touch.”
