FROME Town’s ambitious manager Adrian Foster is targeting the Calor League Premier Division title next season.

Foster took over at Badgers Hill in December last year and oversaw a stunning turnaround in form as he led the Robins from the depths of a relegation dogfight to a comfortable mid-table finish.

And the Frome manager isn’t scared to set the bar high as he throws down the gauntlet to his players at the end of their current campaign.

“There’s no point in saying anything else – the message in pre-season will be that I want to win the league,” said Foster.

“In life, you’ve always got to set yourself targets that are as high as possible because when you achieve them, you get there and wonder ‘what next?’ Finishing sixth would be good but I want to aim as high as I can.

“Next season is going to be difficult after how we’ve performed in the second half of the season because I think that other teams will be expecting a tough game against us but I think that with a few signings in the final third, we can get there.”

Frome, who held play-off contenders St Albans City to a goalless draw in their final league game last weekend, were unable to finish the season with flourish as they were beaten 1-0 by nine-man Taunton Town in the final of the Somerset Premier Cup on Tuesday night.

Foster said: “It was really disappointing because we didn’t turn up. I sensed a hint of nervousness among the lads because we were the side from the higher league and were expected to win the game comfortably.

“When you’ve got three or four players not playing at their best, you can get away with it, but it doesn’t happen when it’s everyone bar the keeper.”
