I WAS absolutely thrilled with the win at Devon – it’s three from three for us and the boys are absolutely buzzing at the moment.

It was our first win at Devon in the one-day competition since 1993. I’ve been involved with the county since ‘88 or ’89 and I remember going down to Devon a fair few times and being on the end of a hiding.

There was one time I remember when we beat them at Corsham and this was just as memorable a victory as that.

Last year we had some poor results and didn’t win a game throughout the whole season but we’ve strengthened the side this year and I think that it’s no surprise that things have improved.

Some of the young players that we’d earmarked were ones that we knew would excel in one-day cricket and that’s what they’ve done so far.

Tom Foley is only 17 but he’s got an old head on young shoulders and he wasn’t fazed by anything at all – 1-30 was a fantastic bowling spell for him.

I thought that Jake Roberts also did really well. We’d had reports from the academy that he’d been impressive bowling towards the end of the innings and he came in when the pressure was on but was great in the last four overs.

I think that the change in captaincy has had a big impact too and the way that Michael manouvered the bowlers and the batsmen during the game was superb.

We’ve won three games in the last three weeks but it’s our turn to miss out on a fixture in the Trophy this weekend.

The boys will have to wait for the chance to get Cornwall to Corsham but the league season starts tomorrow so the focus can be on that.

Everyone will be looking to get off to a good start with their clubs and we can take a break from things this Sunday and try to pick up another win when we play Cornwall the week after next (Sunday, May 11).
