TWICKENHAM try scorer Karl Parry admitted that keeping his emotions in check as the final whistle blew on Trowbridge's historic RFU Intermediate Cup victory yesterday was impossible.

The 29-year-old came on as a replacement midway through the first half during yesterday's showpiece clash with Leek and after strong running from James Davies and Jackson Szabo, prop Parry drove over the line to restore Trowbridge's lead with his side's first try of a memorable afternoon.

Parry, who works as a plumbing and heating engineer, was delighted after make a major contribution to his team's thrilling 22-19 victory at the home of English rugby but didn't experience the same success when it came to fighting off the tears.

“It's scary how emotional it is, actually,” said the Trowbridge man.

“Being 30-years-old, you think you've got past all that but nope; I was crying my eyes out when the final whistle went and I loved it.

“I had all my family there watching – mum and dad, fiance, nan and grandad from both sides and the fiance's family too.

“My try was just a standard pick and go from a few yards out and it was the same sort of try you get throughout the season.

“Playing didn't feel different during the 80 minutes and you've just been concentrating on winning the game, no matter where you are.

“But when that final whistle goes and you hear everyone making noise, you just think 'brilliant' - it was amazing and I can't fault it.”
