WILTSHIRE U25 men’s side continued their unbeaten start to the 2014 season with another brilliant performance on Bank Holiday Monday.

The youngsters won the Four Counties U25 Bowls Festival Tournament at Keynsham, featuring Gloucestershire, hosts Somerset, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.

Each county supplied three rinks with one from each county playing against each other once.

Wiltshire maintained their positive start to the new campaign winning all of their three games to collect a maximum six points and lift the Four Counties Trophy for the first time with host Somerset in runners-up spot.

Michael Richards’ rink just edged out Nick Revell’s four by one shot for top spot with a nine shots success while Gary Jackson’s four were involved in a tight game throughout but came out on top by two shots to complete a perfect result.

RESULTS

Rink 1: Craig Hatherall (Westlecot), Ben Choules (Highworth), David Murray ((Rodbourne Cheney) & Nick Revell (Amesbury) beat Somerset 26-18.

Rink 2: Worcestershire beat Gloucestershire 27-20.

Rink 3: Mike Titcombe (W’lecot), Luke Jowett (Cricklade), James Richman (High) & Gary Jackson (W’lecot) beat Gloucestershire 22-20.

Rink 4: Somerset beat Worcestershire 20-17.

Rink 5: Adam Bolwell (Holt), Craig Morphet (High), Matt Daniell (Wootton Bassett) & Mike Richards (W’lecot) beat Worcestershire 23-14.

Rink 6: Somerset beat Gloucestershire 31-13.

Final placings: 1 Wiltshire 6pts; 2 Somerset 4pts; 3 Worcestershire 2pts; 4 Gloucestershire 0pts.

THE North Wilts club at Westcroft, Chippenham are hosting an Open Day this Saturday, May 10 from 10am-4pm.

A welcome is ensured no matter what age for those persons who have an interest in playing bowls and want a fun and enjoyable day. Shoes and bowls will be provided.

There will also be a follow-up of four weeks for those who would like to take up the game.
