CHIPPENHAM Town will team up with near neighbours Swindon Supermarine this summer to support injured midfielder Rob Dean.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Bluebirds from Marine midway through last season, suffered a career-ending knee dislocation in a game against Hungerford Town in March and Mark Collier’s men have arranged to travel up the M4 for a pre-season friendly against their local rivals on Saturday July 19, with the proceeds going towards Dean’s rehabilitation.

Chippenham boss Collier said: “The Supermarine chairman Jez (Webb) got in touch with Neil (Blackmore, Chippenham chairman) about the idea and it’s something that we’d like to do – all of the money from the day will go towards Rob’s rehab.”

The Supermarine game will be the second of the Bluebirds’ pre-season fixture list, which includes trips to Hellenic League Shrivenham, managed by Collier’s son Sam, and Mangotsfield United, as well as a home clash with Conference North Oxford City.

Meanwhile, the Chippenham chief revealed that a striker tops his wishlist as he chases more new additions for next season.

Last week, Collier confirmed that 12 members of the existing squad had agreed to remain at the club and also revealed the signings of Matt Coupe and Toby Osman.

“We’re still talking to a those members of the current team that we were last week and there are two or three more players that we’re speaking to about joining us,” said the Bluebirds manager.

“Lee Phillips and Alan Griffin have agreed to re-sign but we’re looking for a different type of striker to go with them, so we’re looking for someone to fill that role and also looking at bringing in some midfielders.”
