LACOCK manager Joe Martin is left wondering what might have been after his Division Two champions lost three Trowbridge & District League cup finals in six days.
After losing to Division One Westbury United Reserves in both the A&B Cup and the Knockout Cup, Lacock took on Trowbridge Town Reserves in the Spring Cup final last Friday evening.
Martin’s men were left empty-handed once again as they were trounced 4-1.
Trowbridge played for almost an hour with 10 men after having goalkeeper John Wiltshire sent off, but a hat-trick from youngster Harry Waylen completed a hat-trick of disappointments for Lacock.
“We’ve lost three finals and before that, we hadn’t lost for about 18 months,” said Martin.
“I suppose it’s a bit disappointing because we feel we’re better than just one trophy. You’d think that you would have at least won one but Westbury and Trowbridge were better than us.
“It’s still a successful season. It’s only our second year and hopefully we can be there or thereabouts (in Division One) next season.”
Waylen pounced twice early on, with Zach Manna also on target as Trowbridge raced into a 3-0 lead but after goalie Wiltshire was dismissed for bringing down Stuart Tutty, Kevin Hodgkinson reduced the deficit from the spot.
But Lacock couldn’t make their man advantage count, with Waylen completing his treble late on.
Trowbridge manager Dave Jenkins said: “We thought that Lacock would be really up for it after losing two cup finals and we thought that scoring the first goal would be really important. Once we did that, their heads went down.
“It’s the first time we’ve won that cup and a Trowbridge Reserves side hasn’t won a trophy for seven years.
“Even though we scored three goals in the first 20 minutes, I think the lads deserve a lot of credit for the way they defended after the keeper got sent off.
“Harry Waylen scored a hat-trick for us and I think that if he keeps his head on his shoulders, there’s no limit on how high he could go in playing level.”
Trowbridge are on the hunt for new shirt and training top sponsors. For more information, contact Jenkins on 07767 850024.
