AN UNBROKEN partnership of 71 from Rory Cullinan and David Bateman drove Warminster to a 34-run victory over Biddestone last weekend.

Tom Davie’s hosts were put in to bat first after losing the toss and were put under early pressure as their first five wickets fell for just 46 runs.

But Bateman (60 not out) and Cullinan (34 not out) put the wind back in Warminster’s sails as they posted 194-8, despite Biddestone’s Naeem Khan taking 4-22.

Biddestone captain Jamie Mitchell (33) attempted to get his side’s run chase up and running but opposite skipper Davie took 3-25 whilst Marcus Brown and Pete Hickerton also claimed two wickets each to skittle Biddestone for 160 early in the 47th over.

Elsewhere, Westbury were put to the sword at Lechlade as they suffered a 91-run defeat.

Alex Senneck’s men put their hosts in to bat but Bradley Dial hit 100 while Arran Dickinson weighed in with 63 as Lechlade posted a hearty 313-9, despite Martin Dolman taking 3-39.

David Wade attempted to fight back as he posted an unbeaten 62 but Michael Craigs (5-41) and Asanka Vithanage (3-29) reduced Westbury to 222-9.

  • TWO dominant bowling displays booked Warminster a semi- final clash with Westbury in the Wessex Midweek League.

Warminster got past Rode in the first round, where tight bowling by skipper Ollie Quelch restricted the hosts to 66-7 before Pete Hickerton saw the team home for the loss of eight wickets.

Warminster then dismissed LWC for just 44 in 15.1 overs before reaching their target in the eleventh over to claim a six-wicket victory.
