WARMINSTER skipper Tom Davie reckons his side got the basics right as they notched up their second Glos/Wilts Division victory of the season last weekend.

Davie’s men claimed a 43-run victory over Swindon, who were promoted from the Wiltshire Division last season, at Sambourne Road on Saturday.

The Warminster skipper praised his side’s bowling performance but is keen to stress that it’s still early days for his team as they look to make their mark in their division.

“We’ve spoke a lot about concentrating on the basics and that’s what we did on Saturday,” said Davie.

“We always thought that 200 would be a good target to set them and at the halfway stage, we were confident that we could bowl them out.

“Rory Cullinan is Mr Consistent and you also know what you’re going to get every time with John Powell too. Then, with myself and Marcus Brown, we’ve got a strong bowling attack.

“Swindon is a big area so you’d expect them to be quite a dangerous side this year but we’re not going to get too carried away by this win – we want to try and take every game as it comes.”

Warminster were put in to bat first after losing the toss but opener Tom Weaver attempted to inject some impetus into the innings with a knock of 41.

Richard Davie weighed in with 30 while Desmond Kruger and Jeremy chipped in with 24 and 23 respectively, with Warminster eventually skittled for 201 midway through the 27th over.

The hosts flew out of the blocks with the ball, claiming Swindon’s first four wickets for just 20 runs.

Daniel Baker (35) and Daniel Harris (25 not out) racked up the visitors’ most significant scores as Warminster’s Rory Cullinan took 3-28.

Skipper Davie, Marcus Brown and Nick Hembury all claimed two wickets apiece as Swindon were all out for 158 in the 47th over.

Warminster travel to bottom-of-the-table county rivals Chippenham tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Westbury, as they suffered an agonising two-wicket defeat at the hands of Rockhampton.

Jared McDonald hit an unbeaten 65 for Alex Senneck’s side, who were put in to bat first after losing the toss, while Tom Cullen made 57.

But the hosts struggled to cobble together a decent total, and after Simon Rose had reached 24 not out, Westbury posted 170-3.

Simon Rose turned the screw on the Rockhampton batsmen, ending the afternoon with figures of 3-28, but opener Rowan Cartlidge got their run chase up and running with a knock of 47.

Matt Tyler (30), Guy Brothwood (27) and Sam Phelps (24 not out) all also contributed for the visitors.

Westbury’s David Wade took a further two wickets but Rockhampton crawled over the line, reaching 171-8 with the final ball of the game. Senneck’s Westbury make the trip to Biddestone tomorrow.
