BOX loosened Hinton Charterhouse’s grip on top spot as a sublime 142 from opener Gerald Hayward guided the visitors to a 131-run victory in Division One on Saturday.

Hayward’s knock, which included 14 fours and a six, helped visitors Box to a total of 237-3.

Hinton quickly found themselves in trouble in their reply slumping to 38-5 before they were dismissed for 106 as Box strike bowler Jordan Welsby claimed figures of 4-20.

Beanacre & Melksham got the better of local rivals Bradford on Avon despite being dismissed for 142 having been put into bat.

The opening partnership of Paul Gilbert (49) and Matt Hunt reached 54 before Hunt departed.

Bradford’s bowlers began to make inroads as Ben Brown, John Wiltshire and Joe Veacock all reached the 20s.

Danny Tallentire’s spin mopped up the tail as he took 4-16 in 7.2 overs to end the Beanacre innings in the 36th over.

Bradford’s reply started slowly in the face of fast, accurate bowling from Brown (2-24 off 12) and Rich Hemmings (2-23 off 10).

Youngster Jack Footner (3-19) and veteran Chris Downham (3-17) wrapped up the home side's innings as they were all out for 108, James Edwards (23), Manoj Perera (29) and Ian Pinchen (14) the pick of their batsmen.

Urchfont skipper Patrick Bromley paid tribute to returning batsman Morlon Simon after his century helped his side to a 155-run win over Collingbourne.

Simon smashed 115 and shared a third-wicket stand off 77 with Joe Dorgan as their side reached 236-8 from 45 overs.

Collingbourne, who had won the toss, were then dismissed for 81 in just 29 overs as Toby Dorgan’s 4-7 from five overs and tight bowling from Keith Bills and Simon kept them penned down.

Bromley said: “It was a great win for the team. (It was) a spectacular innings from Morlon who showed some classy shots and some huge sixes.

“He is a huge asset to the team and that shows the damage he can do even on a wet wicket.

"He’s playing Combined Services firsts (cricket) now so I’m sure we will see a lot more from Morlon this year.

"The team supported him throughout his innings and we went out to bowl and field really well.

“Toby Dorgan was the pick of the bowlers with some unbelievable spin.

Wootton Bassett captain Darren Beasant hailed Jack Paish as he led the side to the summit with an unbeaten 58 against Malmesbury.

“Jack is almost unrecognisable this year compared to last,” Beasant said. “He is absolute class.

“It is not just the number of runs he scores, it is the way that he goes about getting them and he’s not satisfied unless he finishes the job off.”

Bassett restricted Malmesbury to 174-7 with Jubedur Rahman the pick of the bowlers claiming 3-23 from eight overs.

They then eased home with five wickets and eight balls to spare.

Swindon Civil Service claimed local bragging rights as their bowlers destroyed NALGO to secure a 126-run victory.

Matt Giddings’ unbeaten 75 helped Service to 171-8, Zak Anwar taking 5-20 from his 12 overs.

NALGO’s reply collapsed to 45 all out, Lee Beaver took 3-1 an d Scott McNeill 3-13.

Division 2

SPYE Park were 28-run victors over Swindon A after scoring 194-6, M Hutchins scoring 73. Tom Foreman hit an unbeaten 56 but Swindon were dismissed for 166.

Wroughton Wranglers edged home by four runs against Keevil after making 171-9, Ben Webber with 55 and Mark McMeeking 43.

Simon Emmett took 3-31 and Josh Hamblin 3-39 for Keevil, whose reply fell agonisingly short on 167 all out.

Simon Tyler scored 51 as McMeeking took 3-18 for Wroughton.

Steve Copland’s heroics weren’t enough to help Lacock to their first victory of the season as they went down by 29 runs to leaders Bear Flat.

Copland took 7-22 off seven overs as Bear Flat were dismissed for 154, then hit 40 as Lacock were all out for 125.

Division 3

BEANACRE & Melksham 2nd found initial runs hard to come by after being put into bat by Biddestone 3rd, reaching 27-2 off 17 overs.

Youngster AJ Hobbs hit 42 and Gary Ings (11 not out) and Andy Footner (20 not out) helped them to 133-8 as they plundered 26 off the final three overs. Andy Marsh took 2-16 off 12 overs.

Biddestone’s reply also struggled early on but youngsters Harry Beazer (29) and Daniel Comport (21) seemed to be turning the game in their favour until they fell short on 117 all out.

Footner took 3-15 from 12 overs, Ings (3-30) and Hobbs (2-15) also weighing in.

Robbie Pamphilon scored 70 and Stef Tyrie 44 in Wootton Bassett 2nd’s 236-9 against Potterne 3rd, for whom Kieran Chivers took 4-40.

Potterne were all out for 96 in reply, Tyrie taking 5-16 as Max Bartholomew scored 44.

Corsham 3rd’s 93-run triumph over Beehive (Southwick) was set up by their innings of 148, Liam Sumsion scoring 55 and Gabriel Field 36 before they bowled Southwick out for 55, Sam Thomson with 3-21 and Sayeed Ibrahim 4-20.

Division 4

RAMSBURY scored 218-6 against Malmesbury 2nd as Ajay Kumar contributed 69. Malmesbury, despite Theo Blundell's 50, short on 135.

Division 5

JOE Tillyer scored an unbeaten 102 as Goatacre 3rd defeated Bradford on Avon 2nd by five wickets.

Bradford reached 210-9 as Rufus Lakin scored an unbeaten 85 and Barry Garland took 5-35 from 12 overs.

Chippenham 3rd slipped to a two-wicket defeat against White Horse after recording 180-6, Mike Oliver scoring 63 and Dave Hicks 53.

Graham Cuthbertson took 4-26 from 10.4 overs and Paul Cornock 3-6 from four as Warminster 3rd bowled Trowbridge A for 96 before knocking off the runs for the loss of four wickets, the innings finished off by a mature innings from youngsters Bron Wood (14*) and quick-fire 23 not out from Jordan Ashman.

Division 6

LACOCK 2nd recorded 206-9 against Heytesbury & Sutton Veny 2nd, with Matt Lever scoring 52, Mark Simmons 40 and Joe Foley 36.

The reply ended on 113, despite Andy Frost’s 41, as Tim Culling took 3-7 in seven overs.

Nick Cranston took 3-22 as Burbage & Easton Royal 3rd dismissed Biddestone 4th for 78 before Alan Wheeler’s unbeaten 31 got Burbage home for the loss of one wicket.

Martin Tarr hit 104 in Potterne 4th’s 224 all out against Swindon Nalgo 2nd, who were then dismissed for 120 as Rony Alam took 4-20.
