THE HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour heads to Cumberwell Park, just outside Bradford on Avon, for the first time tomorrow, with some of Europe’s best young pros descending on the course.

Among those teeing it up at the £40,000 event will be Trowbridge man Steve Surry, a former winner on the EuroPro Tour, who plays out of Cumberwell Park.

With Order of Merit leader Jack Senior not in the field and second-placed William Harrold taking advantage of the opportunity of a start on the Challenge Tour, the event provides a great opportunity for the chasing pack to close in on the front two.

At the end of the season the top five on the Order of Merit earn full Challenge Tour cards and whoever wins this week’s £10,000 top prize will gain an early advantage on the rankings.

Darryn Lloyd and James Maw both lost out to Garrick Porteous in an 18th-hole play-off in last week’s FSC Invitational at The Astbury and will be keen to carry some momentum with them in Wiltshire.

Cumberwell Park manager Ali James said: “It’s a great privilege for us to be hosting a HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour event.

"We as a club are always looking at ways we can raise our profile and being on Sky Sports will be a great way to showcase what we have on offer here at Cumberwell, especially with it being the club’s 20th Anniversary during 2014.

“Matt James and his team of greenkeepers have got the course in fantastic condition and although I think the scoring will be good with the warm weather expected, it will provide a good test for all the players.

“With the greens having firmed up over the last few weeks it will be important for players to get good position off the tee in order to be able to hit their approach close.

“All of the club from the management, staff and members are all very excited about hosting the event and it promises to be a great week. We wish all players the best of luck”

Daniel Godding, Director of Operations at the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour said: “I am delighted to be bringing the Tour to Cumberwell Park for the first time.

“I played the course last week and it was in great condition. The course is set in beautiful countryside and I know the players will be as impressed as I was by layout of the tight fairways and manicured greens.”

The 54-hole strokeplay event begins tomorrow (Wednesday). At the end of play on Thursday a cut to the leading 50 players and ties will be made.

Friday’s decisive round will be filmed for a two-hour highlights package to broadcast on Sky Sports HD on Tuesday, July 1.
