DANNY Talbot clinched second place in the men's 100m at the European Team Championships to help Great Britain & Ireland into fourth place after the opening day of events in Braunschweig.

The Hilperton sprinter clocked 10.30 as he finished behind France's Jimmy Vicaut (10.03).

“In my head I was aiming at points,” said 200m specialist Talbot. “Obviously you want to go out there and win every race. Vicaut has been running nine seconds this season and just ran 10.03 in not the best conditions.

“Everything is aimed at the Sainsbury’s British Championships next week. Hopefully we can go out there and put on a show for the fans. I’m expecting quick times in the 100 and 200 for everyone.

Eilidh Child, who is coached by Broughton Gifford's Malcolm Arnold, was second in the women's 400m hurdles while the British men's 4x100m team picked up their country's sole victory of the first day.
