CORSHAM CC Wildcats striker Dan King pipped a clutch of players to claim the Player of the Season accolade, sponsored by the Gazette & Herald.

The 23-year-old, who plays for Toolstation League Division One winners Bradford Town on a Saturday, made just 15 league appearances for Scott Fleming’s side.

But in those games he scored 22 times, picking up 10 votes from opponents as Wildcats player of the match, plus two more in cup matches.

King, who lives in Neston, was part of the Corsham Centre side that lifted the Premier Division title from 2007 to 2010 as well as the Knockout and Wiltshire Sunday cups.

He then moved to Biddestone Social and, in his first season, helped end the Centre’s years of dominance by claiming the Premier Division title and another Knockout Cup winners trophy in 2011.

A year later King clinched a fifth successive top flight title as Social won again.

Having had a previous brief spell with the Wildcats (formerly Biddestone White Horse) in 2010 where he scored eight goals in five games, King returned from Social at the start of the 2011-12 campaign, finishing their top scorer with 12 goals.

He received his award and £100 of sports vouchers from Gazette & Herald sports editor Owen Houlihan.

Mike Stevens, secretary of Miller Sports FC, who have teams in both the second and fourth divisions, claimed the secretary of the year award.

The 31-year-old, who works for Melksham based haulage company A B Gerrish Ltd, is also manager of Miller’s A team that was runner-up in Division Two this season.

Aston Villa season ticket holder Stevens, who took over as club secretary in 2012, lives in Melksham and is also assistant manager to good friend Dave Jenkins at Trowbridge Town Reserves in the Trowbridge & District League.
